So I guess I will have to start from the beginning for all of you out there. My
name is Jacob Goodkid. By day I am a regular kid like you. I go to school, learn
and have lots of fun with my friends. I know school isn’t always the most fun, but I
know that it will one day help me follow my dreams because if I work hard enough
anything can happen. There are many things to learn while in school. Your math,
reading, writing and science will help give you the basics to carry on to whatever you
want to do when you become a grown-up.
But there is a different kind of knowledge
out there that I want to share with you. This knowledge is something that you may
or may not learn in school, but it may be some of the most important things you
will ever learn. The things I will share with you in my adventures are things that
will keep you safe and give you the skills to avoid any harm that may come your
way.
Sometimes people think that bad things can not happen to them, but sadly,
sometimes people can not help what bad things come their way. The only thing
you can do as a smart boy or girl is to learn of the things that you can do to protect
yourself and prepare for anything.

We have been inspired to create a children's book with both story and illustrations. Our writing background is related to the production company; 'Goodkid Productions' which was created in 2004, where we write full length feature screenplays intended for film. Our current project is entitled 'Goodkids P.I' which revolves around three best friends growing up and solving local crimes while educating the audience on issues of community safety and acknowledging some of the decisions that youths have to make to avoid harm or trouble. The illustrator within our company is a world class 3-D artist; Mr. Mike Brennan.
What I have developed is a prospective series that serves the audience several purposes.
- To have the reader enjoy the story at face value (illustrations, good all around story, enjoy the characters).
- To engage the readers in issues of crime, victimization, prevention and personal safety.
- To educate the reader on issues of the criminal justice system, community policing and the types of resources available to them in a time of need. Furthermore, it is to engage the reader in learning how to be a contributing member to community safety and crime prevention.
- Although these tasks seem steep for a young reader age 6-9 years of age, what the audience will take away from this book is how to avoid becoming a victim, and recognize the fact that harm or criminal victimization can happen to anyone. What this story will imprint on a young person is how to be aware and contribute to community safety by learning to become an observer and become aware of their surroundings in a new context.
- To introduce new methods of analytical thinking through reading the story and learning new methods of problems solving in a criminal justice context.
- To recognize the fact that children, and or, our intended audience (ie. Children ages 6-9) are a pure and innocent segment of our society. Further education and knowledge can only protect children and introduce some of the unfortunate realities of the world they live in.
- To introduce issues of crime and criminal justice to the youthful audience to assist them in their decision making process.
8) Recognize that the media has an impact on a child audience. This series can and will become a positive tool in influencing youth to educate themselves and make the right choices.
The series revolves around the three characters (above) Jeff James, Jacob Goodkid and Clint Murdoch. Jacob’s father is a local police officer. His role is to assist the three main characters in their investigations. Their cases revolve around such issues as theft, drugs, gangs, vandalism, violence, bullying and aggressive behaviour to name a few. Each storyline educates the writer on the aforementioned issues and informs the audience of means of investigations in a fun way. The audience will learn methods of analytical thinking, decisions making and also be informed of the consequences of each action. Each story is roughly thirty pages including the full illustrations as pictured above.
